The day we went to Llanelhaern and not Bangor.
On the morning of Tuesday 8th March we set off towards North Wales.
It was a bright day and the countryside flashing by the car looked lovely.
The trees have not yet begun to sprout green, but spring lambs were playing in the fields.
We stopped for some lunch in Welshpool.
We have stopped there before - many years ago. We probably said then that we would like to return; we certainly said it last week.
We called in at a cafe that was about to close - but we were welcomed and food was provided.
A woman came in - mother of the cafe owner we think.
She had a lot on her mind and we were ideal people, it seems, to share it with.
Immediately she was grumbling about the Welshpool 15 year plan and Mr Robinson! She thought she should get on the council and tell them how things should be done!
And what about all the houses that the government say must be built in Wales? Welshpool doesn't want them!
We had to leave her to her worries and continue on our way - by Dolgellau and Porthmadoc - to Pete and Jean's house.
On this occasion we didn't go to Bangor - and very rarely will again.
P & J live just outside a small village on the Lleyn Peninsular, about 20 miles to the west of Bangor.
We enjoyed good food and chat with our old friends.
This was Shrove Tuesday - Pancake Day; Jean served up pancakes.
