Athletics at Brighton

Athletics meeting this evening at the Brighton track.
It was organised by Phoenix Athletics Club - though organised is hardly how I would describe the proceedings.
This may be the first such meeting the club have organised, after over 25 years of existence.
Now, at least, some people have learned a little of what other clubs and officials have been providing for their runners all these years; things that were not in evidence tonight.
They had organised electric timing, but that was playing up.
Barbara and Bill and me were the time keepers. Barbara went over, at the start, and instructed the bunch of volunteers who were attempting to be track judges.
Chris Carter came and helped too - Chris was an 800 metre runner for GB at the Tokyo Olympics.
There was no announcer.
There were no people sorting out the results. Results were not displayed anywhere.
Never mind, somehow or other the athletes ran and they will get their times at some point.
The racing was good and the spectators enthusiastic.

It was cold this evening and a bit damp and drizzly. On our drive to Brighton we noted that the top of The Downs were in cloud.
On the way home the skies were grey but all around the western horizon there was a brilliant bright white strip of cloud catching the last rays of sunlight as it was setting. It was quite beautiful.

The day began with a trip to the doctor's. I had my B12 injection. Bill saw Dr O. Nothing really to be done for Bill at the moment. He will see the rheumatologist next month.
