Hastings Part 3. Rides and evening tea on the east beach

As we enjoyed our drinks or ice cream at the cliff top cafe, we had to decide what we would do next.
Ekatarina was given a choice of a visit to the Smugglers Caves - in St Clements Caves or to have some rides at the fair ground that we could see below us.
Ecky opted for the rides.
We went down the cliff railway and had a look at the interesting shops in George Street - we bought a badge for Ekatarina.
Then we had to decide which rides would be best. One was obviously far too scary for all of us.
Ecky prefers gentle rides and I was sad that even the little roller coaster Very Hungry Caterpillar was not for her - I would have had to go on with her!
She loved the little carousel, and after the ride on her police bike she had another ride on her galloping horse.
And then she spent some time in the bouncy castle.
For once the castle seemed to be good value and lots of fun.

The nice lady looking after the bouncy castle was from Poland.

Then we walked back to the East beach or fishing beach - where the car was parked.
Some of us had got tempted by cheesy chips from a kiosk on the way.
And Ekatarina had the second ice cream of the day.

The old town of Hastings has all sorts of interesting little houses.

Tea time on the East beach.
The cliff railway behind us is no longer operating.

Fishing boats go to sea from the east beach. Most fish goes to market, but there are always stalls selling some to the visitors.

The sea gulls are so greedy - and in no fear of those willing to give them food.

A last walk to the water's edge to throw some pebbles.
And then home - in weather that changed abruptly from hot sunshine to very heavy rain.
Pevensey marshes looked very bleak as we imagined how it was for William of Normandy landing his army at that spot.
