Hastings Expedition

Another full and exciting day.
We went to Hastings.
We did stop in Battle, wondering if we might be able to see the spot where King Harold is supposed to have died. We didn't plan to be there long. I am sure that once, long ago, we were able to wander to the spot - but not now. It would have been £3 to park and then there was a large admittance fee.
I wouldn't have minded if we had all day to spend there - but our hearts were set on Hastings.

We bought some chips and ate them with some picnic items from home close to the beach.
Then we bought tickets for the cliff railway and enjoyed the good views from the top of the cliffs.
We went to Hastings Castle - just a few ruins now, but when William the Conqueror had the place built it was quite a community.
We saw a short film telling us the story of the castle from William's times to the present day.
We enjoyed trying to imagine how things would have once looked.
We had a drink at a cliff top cafe and fed some food to a sea gull with a foot missing. Ekatarina had the first ice cream of the day.
Ecky was then given a choice - either the Smuggling Experience in the caves or some rides in the fairground. She chose the rides.
So we got the cliff railway back down to sea level.
We walked a little in George Street and enjoyed the wonderful bits and pieces in the shops.
Ecky enjoyed a ride on a little carousel with horses. Then there was another ride on a toy police car.
And then back to the horse carousel. Ecky loved it.
She finished off with a happy, energetic 15 minutes in a bouncy castle.
We started to walk back to the car - Ashley got tempted by cheesy chips. Bill and I shared some chips and Ecky had the second ice cream of the day.
We enjoyed this snack on the beach amongst the fishing boats and greedy gulls.
We spent a while throwing pebbles into the sea.
And then it was time to go home - just in time.
The rain fell heavily all the way home.
We will make time to sort out pictures in the morning and I will put some on the blog tomorrow.
There are some tentative planes for tomorrow afternoon to go to the original Pooh Sticks bridge.
We'll see.
Time for bed for little girls and grandmas!
