My Sheffield Park Station photographs.

Glad the weather was good yesterday.
We enjoyed a day out.
We enjoyed our £2 ticket at The Bluebell Railway. You see more trains on the platform than when riding on the train.

Now for some pictures for train enthusiasts.

We arrive at Sheffield Park Station.

You maybe have seen the picture I posted yesterday of Bill leaning into the ticket office to buy our platform tickets.

It didn't take long for Bill to be in conversation with a Bluebell Railway porter.

I have often wondered if Bill would enjoy being a volunteer at the railway; but at the moment it is not on his agenda.

David, who was a childhood neighbour of Bill's.
He is older than Bill - so age is no barrier to volunteering.
He was working as a fireman.

Wheels and steam.

The train driver.

 In the signal box.

Water buckets on the platform.

A bread roll and half a pint of Sussex ale on the platform.
A fine birthday meal!

Many apologies to steam train enthusiasts.... you haven't seen a steam loco yet!

My approach to photography seems to concentrate on people and details.

Ah - at last we have a steam locomotive.
They arrive at Sheffield Park from Kingscote and Horsted Keynes hourly.

 In the engine sheds.
There are many locos here - in various states of repair.

Also in the engine shed.

Reflections on a steam loco.

The dripping water hose.

Mighty wheels - ready for the track ahead.

Filling the tank with water.

From the bridge.

The guard waves his green flag to tell the driver that all is ready and the engine can pull the train out of the station.

Thought I ought to end with a locomotive....so why not a big one, and one of the most famous.

The Golden Arrow is used for special events and fine meals are served.

I must look at Bill's pictures - bet he has more engines than me.

Whoops! I give you a locomotive  - but get it wrong.
There is not a steam loco called The Golden Arrow. It was the name of the train between Victoria Station, London and Dover. The train was pulled by many different locomotives.
The engine shown here would never have been suitable for the run to the English Channel; it is just a working engine, for basic small freight and passenger work. Fifty years ago it was based at Guildford.
With thanks to my brother - the true steam enthusiast, for putting me right.
