Arundel and other pleasures.

Saturday has felt somewhat exhausting.
This is partly just because I insist on doing too much and also, in part, due to not being completely fit. Fragile digestion is draining me of energy. I don't believe that any indiscretions on my part have caused this - it's just one of those things.

We were at Ford before 8 o'clock and for a while it felt quite warm, though black clouds seemed threatening.
The first heavy shower fell just as we were leaving Ford.
And, my oh my, some of the showers have been exceeding heavy.
We went into Littlehampton to post parcels and to pop into Lidl....just for some decaff teabags. How come we spent £20? A bottle of wine made up some of the amount - Lidl wines seem generally to be very good.
We had breakfast at The Balaton. Do you know, somebody was sitting at our table! Bill walked through the kitchen to find "the amenities" and George was just starting our breakfast, without us even ordering!
It was very windy by the river and as we walked back to the car the heavens opened yet again.
We decided to skip the beach and call into Arundel instead for a stroll and a  look at antiques shops, and the farmer's market.
Of course Arundel is famed for its beautiful castle - but we walked the side streets and I enjoyed doors and windows.

Green doors - looking a little like beach huts.

We walked down to the River Arun. One day, when we are feeling fit, we will walk from Arundel to Littlehampton along the river bank.
We watched a bird on the opposite bank, which I think is a redshank.

Just a glimpse of  part of the castle.

There is an antiques centre that we enjoy visiting.
The room on the left was my favourite. The camera dealer has a room crammed full of cameras, binoculars and all sorts of bits and pieces connected with optical items.

When we got home I was greeted by a poppy.
The big floppy poppies have not been standing much chance in the heavy rains.

We relaxed with a cup of tea and then began to look at what we had bought - not much this week.

This is a delightful small doll's pram.

And look the floppy poppy has not survived yet another downpour.

Bill bought the miscellaneous collection of lead items.
I bought the 2 children's books, delightfully illustrated and accompanied with small records of nursery rhymes.

I was glad to sit and relax for much of the afternoon and enjoyed the athletics on TV - my favourite international event on the annual calender. It used to be called the Europa Cup - not sure what they call it now.
Titles seem to change with each new person to take over the reins of athletics - just like the gradings and titles of timekeepers.
It makes no difference, though, what they want to call us - we are very much in demand.

Tomorrow we will be officiating at a Young Athletes Match.
It will be a long day - and I will be chief.
