Afternoon of athletics at the track.
It was a lovely afternoon at the track.
The sun shone - just a pity that the wind was rather strong; there was a danger of papers flying everywhere.
The event was a Men's Southern League match - well, 2 matches actually.
The Crawley B Team were in match 1 along with East Grinstead, Kent Athletic Club and South London Harriers.
Competition was fierce and I think Crawley only managed a 3rd place.
The other match had just 3 teams, because the 4th failed to appear.
There was Horsham, Haywards Heath/Lewes and Tunbridge Wells.
These are all fairly local clubs, but it was only the familiar Sussex clubs who provided timekeepers.
We were a happy bunch and I was in charge.
Bill had Hayward's Heath's Tim working with him - except when Tim went off to compete. He would tackle anything with a smile that was asked of him.
He did the steeplechase, climbing over the barriers and almost swimming out of the water jump! Then, when any sane person would want to get changed, he joined their 4x 400 metres relay team!
Jamie would surely remember this sort of happy afternoon, where the pressure was not there to be superb - willingness was the most valued attitude.
This evening I have been watching the final of Britain's Got Talent. It pays to be a lovely child in this competition.
I suspect that either the solo boy singer or the 4 boy group will win - none over 16.
We also heard the winner of America's Got Talent - an 11 year old girl with the most amazing operatic voice, as clear as a bell but with such depth and power.
There are some very talented young people in the world, who work hard at their chosen pursuits. They are not all drug taking layabouts.
Its almost time for the results.
I will get the kettle on.
