Walking in the field - and buying.

The sun shone and we went walking in a field this morning - as did hundreds of others.
This was our first car boot sale of the summer season in a field and it felt good, nestling under the South Downs. We met friends there.
I bought well again.
This weekend I have found far more than I can take into the shop tomorrow morning. But that is how it should be - buy lots in the summer months to carry one through the bleaker winter months.
It did occur to me that the next winter months might not provide me with a place to sell all the excess. But Jo, who we met this morning, seems to think that Stephen will carry on.
I took quite a few pictures of things I bought - certainly not everything. Yesterday I was asked by somebody what I had find and I replied that it would be easier to show her, rather than explain and describe in words.

It is always pleasing to find some stylish 1950s pieces.

Something for the gentleman!
I love the rather quaint innocence of 1950s glamour.

It looks as though I have bought a pile of small suitcases.

But things are not what they seem to be.
My pile of suitcases is a box for wine bottles.

An old shopping basket, newly painted green.
And a useful stylish Denby jug.

I do believe that Monika will covet these when she sees them - a pair of book ends in the Arts and Crafts style.
I think they were hand crafted by an amateur in about 1900.

I do like to buy some strange things!
The Betterware brush needs a bit of tidying up and for the handle to be polished.
And....well, what is the other thing?
Any ideas?

More advice needed please!
I know it is a ruler of course.
It is one and a quarter yards long and marked in quarter yards on the reverse side.
And why is one edge curved?
It is made by Rabone - a very collectable make of ruler.

Bill has a folding bone ruler made by Rabone on EBay at the moment. There is much interest - a score of watchers and I feel sure the final selling price will be more than the current bid of £10.50.

Solid oak filing shelves.
This was the way the seller had them displayed and I saw it that way too.
But Bill is sure the shelves should stand with the dividers vertical.
Bill has cleaned it up beautifully since I took the picture.

As I washed this trio, I thought how much Mam would like this china.
I like it too.
I don't specialise in pretty things, but I enjoy it, especially when it has enough art deco style to take it out of the ordinary.

I have sorted quite a bit now, but there will be more to do during the week. I have dealt with all the payments that have come in and so now have parcels to get to the post office tomorrow morning.

But I didn't get as much done as I would have liked - guess who fell asleep on the sofa during the afternoon?
It was not Bill this time. He had been busy mowing the lawns - and quite drastically pruning Frieda's lilac tree which is immediately outside her window. She doesn't know that Bill would do this and I doubt that she will notice.

And so we are almost round to Monday morning again.
I wish a happy and useful induction week for Liz who starts work again - now at Gateshead Hospital.
Ashley will get on with arranging things in the house. This afternoon he was browsing the internet for curtains. The back windows of their main living room are huge!
