Wat Chalong and Tung Ka Restaurant Rang Hill

On the way back down the hill from Big Buddha we stopped for a drink at a cafe we have visited before called Nak Kerd.
Last year when we were there it was on the day we arrived and the name of the cafe summed up our feelings!

Two pictures of Wat Chalong from the internet.
Wat Chalong is a huge Buddhist centre and a place of pilgrimage for many Thais.
It is also popular with tourists - coachloads arriving from the holiday hotels.
But we didn't see too many - low season and later in the afternoon.

Part of the ritual for a Thai is to buy a small pack of flowers, candles, incense and gold leaf to take to a statue for meditation.
The gold leaf is used to cover the statue.

Thais also let off fire crackers at Wat Chalong - the noise drives away evil.
But the fire crackers generally are to give thanks for things coming right.

In the evening we went up Rang Hill to the Tung Ka restaurant.
It is on the edge of Phuket Town.
Jamie has written about it too.

Superb views over the south of the island.

Jamie and Mam peruse the menu.
Almost everywhere the menus are in both Thai and English.

Fantastic picture by waiter.
We look like we are hanging in space over the evening town.
