6th August. Isle of Wight.
Eleven o'clock and all is well.
It has been a long delightful day on the Isle of Wight.
The basic story is this (more details and our pictures tomorrow or Friday.)
On the 10 o'clock boat this morning from Portsmouth.
Drove to Godshill - very pretty village. Much visited, but more at lunchtime than mid morning. Visitor numbers not too over powering.
Morning drinks, ice creams etc outside a tea rooms in beautiful gardens.
Beautiful gardens everywhere.
Church on the hill interesting and lovely.
Then to Botanic Gardens at Ventnor. Brilliant!
And free!
Picnic at the children's playground with a happy Ekatarina.
Looked out over cliffs.
Looked at plants and flowers.
Bonchurch sea front was disappointing - but we walked a bit anyway. The village may be lovely.
Drove back to Ventnor.
Sea front full of holiday makers.
Pleasant resort on a steep hill.
Drove back to north of island - delayed by a road closure due to an accident. Found little roads that we would never have normally used.
Tea and cake with Bill's sister Rosalynn who lives just outside Ryde.
Lovely back garden with good views over the countryside.
She picked us runner beans.
Then to the boat. Lovely journey back.
Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth lit up.
Drive home with lots of lightning flashing and streaking with thunderstorms in the eastern sky.
Now for some pictures quickly grabbed from a web site.
Yes of course we have this shot in the cameras too.
Garden within one of the tea gardens - we walked through this one, but it is not where we had actually stopped.
We parked at top of the cliff.
