1st August. Godstone Farm animals.

We have explained before that Godstone Farm gives good value for money and it seemed like the half the children in our area were being entertained there today!
But once inside it didn't feel too crowded.

It is rare that I would split a day up and carry forward items from one day to the next. Once today is over I am ready to move on to the next day normally. But feeling tired and fragile this evening, I make an exception.
Tonight I will show us with the animals and tomorrow I will return to the adventure playground and the grass head that Ecky made.

The animals to be seen are all native farm animals and there are opportunities for handling some of them.
Labelling is good and there is lots to learn - I didn't know that a male turkey is called a stag, for example.

There are rabbits in pens and children can go in and spend time with them. Here Ekatarina is with the biggest rabbit in the place.
And here is a portrait of giant rabbit.

There is poultry of all kinds.

Ecky tentatively strokes a chick. All was well until it flapped its tiny little wings, then I had to retrieve it quickly.

There were lots of mice and Ekatarina loved watching them.
First one mice was in the wheel and when another joined him, he just hung on tight and went round and round.

Ekatarina saw children feeding goats and sheep and asked if she could have a bag of the food.
But however much we told her that the feeling of their tongues on our hands was no different from licking our hands with our own tongue, she didn't feel brave enough to keep her hand outstretched with the food.
So - we had some fun feeding the animals!

The Nubian goats were called Clarence and Desdemona - but don't ask me which one was which.

The sheep were really greedy - pushing each other out of the way for more food - even climbing on another's back to get near the front.

These little pigs were doing just about what any 5 day old animal does best - suckling.
I will put some more pictures on tomorrow and combine them with other playtime pictures that we might take during the day.
There almost certainly will be new toys to play with for we will go to car boot sales.
Right - time for bed.
Goodnight.
