Present business.
January is already flying by.....soon be my grandson's birthday.
Present must be found and posted. He lives in Thailand and posting things across the world is true snail mail.
I had a quick skype with our son, just to check what the boy would like....Lego of course.
But which Lego?
It is not like it was when we had small boys.....just coloured bricks in those days. Now kits are tied into films.
Batman, it seems, is the current favourite.
Now the strangest thing is that I knew of no toy shops in our town, a town of over 100,000 inhabitants.
I have since learned that there is one in the shopping Mall - but I won't have noticed that.
The best bet seemed to be a visit to an out of town supermarket. We opted for the large Tescos at Hookwood.
We found just one Lego Batman kit. We thought is was good enough...so bought it.
Then postage - almost half the cost of the item to post it to our boy.
It is time to begin a collection of things to take in our luggage to the Thai grandchildren when we visit.
On the way home we stopped for a cup of tea with Ruth.
She was officially working from home.....and had a lot to do. So, we were very happy with a quick chat and cup of tea.
This afternoon I have been saving many of the photos of the town (both old and new) which others have posted on the memories of Crawley facebook group.
This is from the 1930s.
I have been in that shop.
Many older folk will have been in there in the 50s and 60s, particularly on a Sunday.
Maybe it was the only shop open on that day.
Here is a clue....it had once been much more important when it had been the Crawley post office.
