An indoor picnic with friends.
In my mind's eye I saw this day as a picnic day.
It is the middle of July, friends would be joining us - a perfect opportunity for a picnic at some lovely site.
The rain thought otherwise!
So, the picnic was spread over the table and we had a good time down Memory Lane.
We have seen our friends P and J quite often and we are reasonably up to date with all their news.
I was at school with J and Bill was an apprentice with P. I must have first met J in 1955.
Bill met his school chum,Oz, before that - probably 60 years ago.
Happily our 3 three guests knew each other already. In fact the three of them were in town to attend a party given by a mutual friend of theirs - somebody Bill and I don't know.
There was much to laugh about.
Oz bought his old Dad's motor cycle helmet for Bill - because we have a house full of worthless, but interesting old things!
It didn't take P long to start playing motor bikes.
He added some complication to the game by creating a miniature set of handle bars and front shaft, using 3 matches.
Then of course, his Vespa needed a kick on the pedal to get started.
The three men of our group are now over 70 - but have they grown up?
I don't think so!
I bought the tomatoes in the village shop at Amberley.
We all thought they were beautiful.
And they tasted just as good tomatoes should.
