Eating out
I love to eat out. It is a real pleasure to relax with Bill, or a group of people and have food brought to us. It is a chance for conversation and observation.
It wasn't always so - not really relaxing in our youth.
Of course money was harder to find in those days and very much harder to come by for both sets of our parents. This was tied to a rather puritanical attitude on my side of the family that it was somehow almost a sin to be so frivolous.
When I was at college, Bill and I would eat out most Sundays. We would go to The Rendezvous Cafe, not far from Richmond Station.
We knew nothing of fancy foods - just the basics and we knew that our meal should be cheap. So, omelette and chips again. Good grief we even had that at the hotel on our wedding night!
We are still not very adventurous (me, more so than Bill) and are happy to find comfortable venues that serve up some good food at a reasonable price - the cheaper the better really.
On Thursday we returned to Wests in Chichester for a cheap lunch in relaxing surroundings.
It is opposite the main entrance to the cathedral.
On Thursday there was a man of the cloth there entertaining 2 young people.
There are some mirrors on the walls. We could see ourselves from our table on a raised section of the floor.
So, I took a picture of us - reflected in the mirror.
"Smile please" "Oh no - not that silly smile"
We had creole chicken, green beans and chips. The chips were a bit disappointing - thin stringy things.
It was a lovely peaceful hour.
No eating out today. There was rain this morning.
I have worked again at E Bay things. It is a free listing weekend and so I have put on some things that I felt warranted higher starting prices.
Tomorrow morning we are going off hunting at Brighton Marina.
Should find a drink and a bite to eat!
