Mostly Bury and Pulborough Brooks

Busy day - in a gentle sort of way.
Expensive day too - the car had its birthday service; the mechanic decided it needed some extra special expensive presents - brake shoes.
I married a motor mechanic and he gets cross with me for not completely trusting what a garage will push onto people. Of course the car needed brake shoes - if only to boost some profits for somebody!
Keep selling on EBay, Paula; it pays for our leisure and that includes the use of a car.
I sold some more today and described some more today.
This evening we have been baby sitting. Well, not exactly babies - our 5 and 3 year old nephews. I love reading stories to children. Tonight the younger one drifted off to The Land of Nod very quickly; his brother was happy to chat a bit and have another story and then he too was ready for sleep.
We are planning another day out tomorrow - exploring a new place after the boot sale at Ford.
It hardly seems a week since we enjoyed such a trip. That trip ended at Bury and  Pulborough Brooks bird reserve.

This village church was more High Church than the other 2 we had visited that day. I love incense and candles. Church incense has a delicious aroma.
Beyond the church is the River Arun.

From the river bank we could look back at the church and the old house. The house on the right, now much extended, is a private school - and is almost hidden by the weeping willow trees.

Sitting in the sun, by the river.

This was the view as we sat and ate our lunch - until we felt a bit chilly and went inside.
The reserve is most noted for its water birds. But after a long day out we were not going to pay to walk down to the water to spy on the birds.
Some came to us!

A water rail.
Photographed through the window.

A moorhen - again through the window.

We have been watching a pair of blackbirds through our home windows this week.
Their song is quite lovely - when trilling.
This is a Pulborough blackbird.
