Athletics and the echinops.
There is not much to say about today.
It was pleasant and I enjoyed working with the timekeepers once more.
We were at the Horsham track today - and I wasn't the chief timekeeper, for a change.
There is friendly rivalry between the teams from neighbouring towns and this time the Crawley men's team came out on top.
There were some hard fought races and some hard runs for individuals.
A fellow from Swale (in Kent) - not in the first flush of youth and carrying many extra pounds competed for his club......very slowly! And in many events.
He ran the 5K, telling Bill, who was calling out the lap times, not to bother because it was too embarrassing!
I had started 2 watches in preparation for his slow time and after everybody else had finished, some hurdles races were completed; and then I stopped the spare watch to give the Swale man his time. It might have been a personal best.
Later he ran 1500 metres and the 3000 metre steeplechase.
He gained points for his club and respect from others that he had worked so hard.
That is what I like about athletics - the desire to one's best and the comradeship and appreciation of all for each other's efforts.
There were actually 2 matches going on today. The other match was a women's match - which Crawley were not involved in, having competed in the National League last week.
There was no rain.
Bill took a few more pictures in the garden this morning.
I just couldn't decide which of these red admiral on echinops I liked the best.
