June 6th. 65 years on, 13 years on and a few weeks on.

Bother!
It was raining when we woke up. No point going out! So, we made a cup of tea and relaxed in bed awhile before getting up.

Talk on the media today - apart from the state of the government has been about the 65th anniversary of D day.
Both our Uncle Bills were there on the Normandy beaches on June 6th and fortunately survived. My Uncle Bill had had his 18th birthday just the day before.
This year it was his 83rd birthday - and sadly his poor health took him to the hospital as an in patient.
His birthday helps me remember how old the cats are - George and Harry arrived with us as tiny kittens from Wiltshire on the day of Uncle Billy's 70th birthday. Roger and Sue brought them to us - and we met them when we arrived home from an athletics match.
Bill's Uncle Bill passed away a couple of years ago.

This afternoon fortunately there was no rain, though it hasn't exactly been warm.
We have been timekeeping at a Men's Southern League athletics match, held at Horsham.
The number of officials these days is very small - I was the chief timekeeper with a team of just 2 others. And to be honest I reckon Bill and I could have managed just as well without Cecil.
We hadn't seen Cecil for some years when we met at the last meeting we attended - and now he was at today's. Could that have been the same shirt he was wearing - the same unwashed, mucky shirt?
Despite Cecil it was a pleasant afternoon and I felt glad to be doing something useful.
The Crawley team were beaten this time by a very strong team from Herne Hill. I remembered their red and black hooped vests from way back; there was a boy from there who won everything in sight when Jamie was about 12. He saw the red and black vest and inwardly groaned that his competition would be so stiff.
That lad is now also 40 years old! Wonder what he is up to?

I have just checked the weather forecast - heavy rain over night.
Maybe a dry spell during the morning.
I wonder if we will get out to a car boot sale.
