Raman Waterfall May 11th.
Monday May 11th continued.
From the Buddha in the cave we drove about 6Km deeper into the countryside along a delightful small road with tremendous views of the jungle covered hills.
Suddenly we drove into a small grassy clearing with landscaped plots of lands.
This was the entrance to the Raman waterfall park.
It is rare to get a chance to walk easily in the jungle and we were glad to take this opportunity.
Many will think of jungles as belonging to Brazil or Africa - but Thailand, too, has its tropical jungle. Phuket is situated 7 degrees north of the Equator and is therefore tropical.
But before the strenuous walking in the jungle it was time to relax and have a small lunch at the little cafe.
What is that man doing on the roof? I didn't spot him until I saw the picture on the computer.
This was my view from my place at the table in the cafe. Trees and plants here were labelled with their names.
A small river flowed past the cafe between the surrounding hills.
The path that we took had been cut through the jungle with lots of steep rocky steps.
There were 14 small waterfalls tumbling down the hillside; but we didn't see very many - we could hear them deep down beneath our path.
This waterfall and pool attracted local boys to play - jumping from high on the rocks down into the cooling pool.

We could have done with some cooling down as we climbed through the dense vegetation - it was hot and humid.
Bamboos.
Plant with huge leaves
The vegetation was not at all like our own woodlands of course - but often it was hard to capture the feeling of the place.

But this flower hanging down over the leaves certainly shows why we were fascinated by it all.
We never actually made it the full length of the jungle path. I guess we were almost at the top when we began to feel weary and dehydrated.
Maybe the descent would have been on the other side of the river and waterfalls.
We shall not know. We were both anxious for each other. I worried that Bill's knees would be suffering and he just worried about me doing too much.
But we were glad we achieved something different - out of our normal walks and trips at home.
