4th June. Quiet times.
Not much happening today!
The shop was quiet - indeed Dorking High Street was quiet...... where were they all?
The shoppers were not shopping.
We have seen people of course. The first couple obviously had time to kill - they were off to a National Trust house which didn't open until 11 o'clock. They filled the time with telling us their life stories! They didn't buy anything.
There were a couple of girls this afternoon - hardly looked more than school girls. I guess they were a bit older than that for they were looking for a 21st present.
They wanted to buy a locket - and we had none. But we got talking of course and they had seen one on an internet site. When asked how much that one had been they said it was £150 pounds and thought this a perfectly reasonable amount to spend on a friend's 21st birthday.
So, a day of chatting.
In fact we only had 3 buying customers all day.
People manning the voting stations might have been feeling similarly. One man phoned the Chris Evans Show (Radio 2) which we heard on our journey home from Dorking. He had been on duty since 7.00am and had seen only 30 voters after 10 hours.
I wish people would vote - despite the lack of faith in politicians.
Today is the 20th anniversary of the massacre of demonstrators in Tianamen Square. All those people wanted was some movement towards democracy - we have it and yet people can't be bothered to use it.
Chris Evans was adamant that everybody should get out and vote.
Bill and I have been to vote - realising that our votes may count for almost nothing.
We have voted for a County Councillor - choosing between Labour, Conservative and BNP.
And there were 15 blocks of candidates for the European elections.
All I will tell you is that Bill and I voted in exactly the same way in both elections - and we both voted for different parties in each election.
Tomorrow Bill and I might get out somewhere for a while.
I am enjoying writing about all our expeditions in Thailand - and suddenly realised that it has been 10 days now since we have been out exploring anywhere. Though we did get to the beach in Littlehampton last Saturday.
No plans have yet been made.
Scroll down to to see us in the tropical jungle.
