Monsters and miscellaneous and memories at Crystal Palace Park.

Crystal Palace Park has played quite a large part in our lives - home of the national athletics track.
Our sons have competed there.
We have attended many of the big meetings held there - we used to book the same four seats every time.
The boys would chase many a famous athlete for an autograph. Their books are full of the names of many of the best athletes of the 1980s.
We have been timekeepers there, at meetings great and small.
We have timed many of the famous stars.
This evening I have watched the first part of a big meeting - I suspect that in these times of athletes being superstars and earning big bucks, the small boys of today can get nowhere near them.
I watched the TV with watch in hand - I had a good evening against the electric timing system; average error was 3 hundredths of a second.

But the first time we ever went to Crystal Palace Park was after a Blue Peter programme which featured the dinosaurs in the park. It must have been in the mid 1970s.
The stone dinosaurs were built in 1854 and are still an attraction.
We walked round their area, with Ecky, on the day we visited Meg, Tom and Charlie who live very near the park.
The pictures below are in random order - coming from the cameras of three different people. They also show a miscellaneous selection of odds and ends seen on our walk to the dinosaurs.

This is more recent - a statue of Guy the Gorilla who lived for very many years at London Zoo; 1947 - 1978.
