Monday ups and downs
Another busy day in Dorking.
The hours have sped by and I haven't done all that was intended - no pictures taken for a shop blog.
I shall have to be inventive for tomorrow.
Almost the first words spoken in the shop were "That is a wonderful step ladder".
Monika immediately wanted it for her kitchen.
And I sold it to her.
Thus I didn't have the steps to display the other the new items on.
I had to rearrange the kitchen section a bit, to get everything in.
By the end of the day Monika had convinced herself that she needed the wooden rolling pin too!
Monika stop being so grand - go out and buy the sort of things I buy, because that is what you like and so do other people.
I have sold really well this week.
I spent quite a lot of the morning talking with Julie. She is good company, but does tend to feel she is being ignored if we are all busy with other things.
Lots of people came into the shop, so lots more people to talk with.
I was feeling really good as I walked along to the post office with a parcel.
I was walking tall, with head held high - reminding myself not to walk like a bent old woman!
Maybe looking at the ground is the best policy!
I was crossing a road and didn't see the pot hole.
My ankle turned over - ouch! ouch!
In those split seconds I saw myself badly hurt and lying in the road, blood everywhere, being taken to a hospital........
But somehow I managed, just, to stay on my feet.
I was helped across the road by somebody I was acquainted with because he comes into the shop.
He went into the shop we were outside and asked for a chair.
For a while I sat on the pavement, enjoying the warm sun, in Dorking High Street - and watching my ankle getting bigger.
After a time I could see and feel that it would be possible to walk on it, so I slowly continued to the post office.
It did seem a long way back to West Street.
The ankle is not giving horrific pain, just a bit of an ache. But it does feel fragile when I walk on it.
But I think it will settle down very quickly.
And, although it was unpleasant, I just feel so very lucky that I did not fall to the ground.
So, that's my excuse for not getting around to to taking any photographs.
Perhaps my readers will just have to have "A day in the life one trading in a Dorking antiques shop."
Right - I am going to check out the new antiques programmes that is on BBC2 - it just might be something where I can glean some snippets of knowledge.
