14th July Menai Bridge and Gardens.

We met Pete and Jean at The Antelope, a pub by The Menai Strait and the wonderful suspension bridge, designed by Thomas Telford.
It was the day of some festivities to mark the 250th anniversary of Telford's birth. There will be events throughout the summer.
We actually failed to find any of the day's activities, although we did hear a brass band in the distance and there were more people walking over the bridge than usual.

We were fortunate to be able to sit outside to eat our lunch. I enjoyed Moroccan chicken with couscous.

We always refer to this as "the pretty bridge" - in contrast to the Britannia bridge which carries road and rail and is about a mile further along the Menai Strait.

After lunch we crossed the bridge and dropped down to the small town of Menai Bridge and walked to the water's edge - the tide was out.

Looking across to the mainland of Wales. Bangor is just a little to the left of this picture.

Ecky enjoyed a play on the rocks in the sunshine.

She found a pretty shell and shared it with me.

We crossed back over the bridge and went for a stroll in the university botanic gardens.

Caterpillar on grass.

Crocosmia - stunning colours and one of Roger's favourites.

A stunning blue sky - a real delight after the torrential rains of the day before.

Ecky and I walked about looking at plants and leaves and seeds and things.

Here we are looking at a variety of grasses that had been left uncut. One variety formed a sea of fluffy pink.

Exploring seed formations from the trees.

Chatting about this and that.
All pictures by Bill. I left my camera at home - which felt like a disaster!
