A funeral stopped the traffic.
I should have my camera with me at all times!
I thought of it as we left the house to go into the town centre this morning.
But is has been a cold day and we had no plans to turn it into a photo opportunity trip.
Shame!
Only last week I had toyed with the idea of a sort of solution to being camera-less. I had wondered about upgrading my phone.
If I had had one with a camera this morning, then my pictures would have been taken. I continue to toy with the idea.
There was chaos in the town - cars parked just about everywhere and crowds gathering inside and outside The Friary grounds.
It was a funeral.
But not an ordinary funeral.
This was the funeral for a young gypsy/traveller mother. Every traveller in the land was there, it seems.
The youngsters all dolled up in their party best. Girls in short skirts and bare arms (even on this cold day). Young lads off to MacDonalds for a coffee in their dark suits and pointed shiny black shoes.
And oh so beautiful were the white horses sporting pink plumes on their heads pulling a white and glass carriage, with their heads tossing.
After the service (we had shopped whilst that was on) the main men of the family followed the carriage to the cemetary and everybody else piled into the cars and slowly, slowly they all found space to move out into the road and drive off.
For a while it seemed like nothing moved - traffic was held up and buses were late.
I hope a picture might appear in the local paper.
This afternoon I did the ironing and also printed some pages for my photograph albums. I have 15 pages for January; one album is for family and friends and the other contains a selection of my own favourite pictures.
I cooked an exceedingly good sausage and mash for evening dinner. Some credit must go to the butcher at the farm shop near Ford. These were beef and ginger - very meaty and very tasty. I cooked 7 different sorts of vegetables too, along with the mashed potato. I planned to have plenty left over and I may make a curried vegetable and sausage pie tomorrow.
I was inspired by Taj - the new Asian food shop in the town centre. It's a real treat to be able to go in and take in the aromas of the east.
It was a bit like this.
Today's carriage was pulled by 4 horses with pink plumes.
The carriage held the coffin and masses of flowers including flowers made into the words BEST MUMMY.
