Unfinished business

The unfinished business continues to be unfinished.
The floor saga goes on and on.
One day we might know what happened to Mick.
I think perhaps I had misjudged him. After his initial offer to come and lay the wood floor he may have changed his mind. Maybe the tragic story of the sick mother is true and he felt she provided him with a get out clause.
But a reply to Bill's inquiries would have been helpful.
Bill thought we should do the decent thing and wait for Mick to be ready.

But last week, Bill changed his mind. He felt it was his duty to get on and do it himself.
I was worried about how physical work on his knees could affect his health.
This morning was to be the day to begin.
I needn't have worried about Bill's knees.
I sat wrapping parcels and watched as Bill paced about, scratched his head, talked to himself about how things should be done.
I did suggest he take a look in Yellow Pages and find somebody....."You don't want me to do it, do you?" Bill accused.
Well, no I didn't; and when I saw the frustration and bewilderment and the fear of failure I felt sure I was right.
It was not long after that Bill threw in the towel and reached for the local paper and Yellow Pages.
So now, somebody else we don't know will come and do the floor.
He is in great demand and will not be able to start until June 7th.
What a relief!
Bill has already learned that he bought the wrong underlay.
It is now somebody else's problem.
We will just pay up.

I feel bad because it is all my fault..... first I wanted light coloured carpet tiles, which got dirty very quickly. We had carpet before and it never looked dirty - it was already the colour of dirt I guess! Then I wanted wood panelling.....and we wait and wait.
Why didn't I want a vinyl covering, or tiles.?

I have dealt with parcels today.
And listed on EBay a violin with no strings, no bridge and other bits missing, along with a bow with no hair.
This was in Jenny's loft.
It is probably the one I was encouraged to learn on in the late 1950s.
Oh how I didn't want to learn the violin!
I guessed that the violin would attract bids - but just in case I started the bidding at 99p, so that if it failed it will have cost me nothing to list it.
It has bids already. We are up to £10.

I also did a blog about Dorking for the Pilgrim's Antiques blog.

My floaters are driving me mad at times. I can see a wispy, flimsy cobweb in front of my left eye. I sometimes even try to brush it away. It is not there of course!
But sometimes the brain can ignore it, thank goodness.
I will ask for an appointment with the optician tomorrow - just to check things out.
