4th March Phang Nga Bay Part 1. General views.
March 4th - Jamie's birthday.
Phang Nga Bay is not part of Phuket. It is a coastal area to the north on the mainland, about an hour and half of driving from Jamie's house.
Most tourists arrive from their hotels in a coach and pile into the large fast boats for a quick tour.
The Monks do things differently - and more cheaply of course. Mam negotiated a price for a small long tail boat and boat man for as long as we wanted and off we chugged from the village by the long inlet to the open sea. Yes - it was a slow chug; Jamie reckoned we had got the slowest long tail boat in all Thailand!
Never mind, it was lovely to relax and enjoy the views.
This picture expresses well the views we had from the boat - high pinnacles of rock, forming islands in the ocean. These look close together - others are just dotted about.
All the tourists stop to look at this rock and the guides like to say that it looks like a dog.
Most of the pictures taken from the boat must include the front of the boat, for I wouldn't have wanted to lean over to one side and upset the balance.
This is a view from the boat towards Panyee, a village built almost entirely on stilts over the water. Later I shall take you on a walk through the village, but before then we must explore James Bond Island - so named after it was used in the filming of Man with the Golden Gun. And there will be lots of lovely family pictures too.

The waters have eroded right through the base of one of the craggy towering islands and small boats can go right through.
This is looking back under the rock, where we had just been.
