25th February. Part 4 Kathu Temple.

In the late afternoon Jamie, Jessica and I went to Kathu Temple.
Kathu is the name of the district where Jamie and Mam live. There is a small village centre and the temple is just outside.
The evening light was brilliant. It was close to sunset, which comes at about half past six. This close to the equator, day and night are of almost equal length and the time of nightfall varies little throughout the year.

Jessica and I admired this gateway. She loved the shiny blue mirrored mosaic, which shimmered in the low sunlight.

We looked for interesting details.

Here Jamie and Jessica admire the golden shutters round the building which tell an important story - but I regret I can't tell you it.

Jessica did not forget to spend a quiet moment with the Buddha.
There have been many Buddhas since the first one who formulated the basis of Buddhism.
The monks are self sufficient. Their days have times for prayer and work and play. This monk was busy sweeping leaves, whilst we saw another sitting, reading a paper. Another was walking in the wood beyond the temple and he might have sneaked off for a quick cigarette, which is not actually part of the normal regime for monks.

This is of the monk's houses, with washing hanging out to dry - orange robes of course.
