Lovely days and lovely Charlie.

Help!
I don't have enough days to blog things we have been doing before we head off to Wales!
Tomorrow I think I shall do two postings about today and then return to Hastings on Sunday.

Today has been special and the sun shone for us.
We have met our great nephew, Charlie........ and his mother of course, who is our niece Megan.
We enjoyed a cup of tea and a cuddle and a bit of baby photography.
Then we all went for a walk in Crystal Palace Park.
London parks make a wonderful oasis within the busy streets and CP park is big.
We had lunch at the cafe, sitting out side.
Charlie was feeling a bit restless, but did finally go to sleep as we walked back to the flat. I enjoyed a nostalgic push of a pram!

We left Meg to get some rest whilst Charlie slept - hope he stayed asleep for long enough, Meg.
We braved the unfamiliar south east London streets and traffic and set off for the Horniman Museum.
Huh! My map had failed to tell me where there are one way streets!
But we found the impressive building and also somewhere to park - that could be a problem.
The Horniman Museum was established for the good people of the area by a Mr Horniman, using his own fantastic collection as the basis for it.
It has been added to in the succeeding 100 years.
There is much Natural History and much history and art of the world.
There is a little aquarium which is beautifully laid out.
And it is all free!
The building and the exhibits left me gasping with pleasure and I was thrilled that at last we had discovered this gem of a place.
The gardens around the building are impressive too, with great views over the city of London and beyond. We could see St Pauls' Cathedral - and beyond we could pick out the Wembley Stadium arch.

We will return in the summer - it will make a really good day out with Ecky.
I am sure we could even find a good playground for her too!

I have just a few photos this evening, taken in Hastings on the evening of Bill's birthday.
We decided that good old fish and chips was just the meal we wanted - and very good they were too. The fish was fresh - hopefully sold by one of the fishermen who operate of the east beach.

I had taken a picture of Our Lady the day before - with the sea shrouded in mist.
On the Thursday evening, in low sunlight, the beach, the boats and the sea looked quite lovely.

Low sun over a fishing boat.
The sun sets behind the west cliff, where the ruined castle is.

The East Cliff Lift railway in the back ground.
The next morning we went up there.

We called into the Icklesham pub on the way back to the barn for a night cap.
The bar maid was very glad to talk of her traumatic evening - an elderly man had collapsed and died in the garden. She needed to talk and I needed to know.

Bill with the birthday cards that had arrived before his birthday.
There were many more waiting at home.
He was very happy to have been remembered and to receive lots of good wishes.
We would like to go to Ford in the morning and the plan had been to walk on Cissbury Hill.
Maybe this jaunt will have to wait for another occasion. The forecast is for overcast skies and some light rain.
