Nymans.
It looked like a stay at home day.
We got up late; I made some bread. I sorted a few items of stock.
Quite late in the afternoon we realised that it could be a going out day. The clouds had blown away and sun shone from a blue sky.
Even as we left the house we hadn't decided where to go.....Tilgate maybe, as the afternoon was getting late?
And then we drove to Nymans.
Our local grand garden.
Much of the house was destroyed in a fire. But it remains a stunning backdrop to the garden.
Some magnolias were long gone. But this variety was full of buds, waiting to burst open.
Another bud.
Horse chestnut.
Part of the ruined house behind a fountain.
There is normally some train spotting from the garden - would we see a train crossing Balcombe Viaduct?
I love this pile of old ornamental bricks.
They have been piled against a wall for ages.
The view across the valley. Last time we were there we walked down in the valley.
Bluebells and bright blue sky.
Oh lucky us!
A reminder that this morning it had rained heavily.
Raindrops on leaves.
We had enjoyed an hour of sunshine.
Then I phoned one of our dearest friends who lives in one of Nymans cottages.
She was at home and very happy to offer us tea and biscuits - and lots of chat.
What a happy day it turned out to be.
