Kindness of people.
The kindness of a shop assistant, indirectly, paid for us to have a good meal out.
I am hoping that the kindness of a traffic warden was of some value too.
This morning we went into town.
It was a dull damp day.
Bill's first task was to talk to people in Jessops about his camera; very early on in Thailand the flash stopped working.
He needs to know if it is a financial good idea to have it repaired or if, it would be best to buy a new camera body.
You take pot luck in Jessops - some assistants know about things and others not.
We got the boy!
He knew the routine. The camera could be left there with £25 for it to be sent away for an estimate.
The man came out and told us that the camera would be sent to the National Panasonic Repair Centre - which happens to be in Horley. He told Bill that Bill could take it there himself - which he did after lunch. The camera is there to be looked at; an email will arrive in a few days with a verdict. The cost? Nothing.
Perhaps we shouldn't have spent some on a late lunch. There might an unforseen expense.
We returned to our car this morning to see a traffic warden by it.
I felt bad - I had assured Bill that disabled badge people could park in that place.
And so they can.....but in this place one has to display the clock to show how long you have parked for.
I didn't know that.
Our very pleasant traffic warden had just completed putting the details in his computerised machine. If he had just written a ticket, as in the old days, he would have torn it up.
He said that I would have to write to the local council, explaining what had happened.
He was not allowed to tell me that the charge would be quashed, but did say he was 99.9% certain.
I must write in the morning - and hope.
Having a meal out was lovely.
We spent a very pleasant time in Horley Wetherspoons - The Jack Fairman.
We might have had the bargain afternoon meal.
But splashed out slightly more because Thursday is curry club day.
That's my meal - I chose sweet potato, chick pea and spinach curry.
It's really good.
And I had a pint of Guinness.
The price of £5.95 is really good - a pint of Guinness can cost £3 in many pubs.
It was warm and cosy indoors as the rain beat heavily on the roof.
We haven't seen rain like that since we were in Thailand!
