Khao Sok Cliff and River Resort. 29th September 2010.

On Wednesday 29th we took Simon to the airport and sadly said farewell.
We continued northwards, off the island for a couple of hours or more.
Once we turned from the coast, the scenery began to be first beautiful and later spectacular.
We were in Khao Sok National Park.
We stopped at one viewpoint for a few photos.

At last, we turned off the road and along the drive to The Cliff and River Resort.
We checked in and went to explore our bungalows.
The wooden bungalows are scattered across the hillside and are built on stilts.
We were hungry - time to go to the restaurant.

That's the restaurant down there - down 133 steps.

The restaurant is under the cliff and by the river - hence the name of the resort.

Nearly there!
We enjoyed a good meal.....and then it was time to return up to our bungalows. I got to know those 133 steps quite well!

Our bungalow is just off the left of the picture.

The old carts made an attractive feature in the garden.

Nearly at the top, Mam!
Actually not true - because the hill continued beyond our bungalows.
Reception was right at the top.

On the path to our home for two nights.
Ours is the last one.

We passed the swimming pool.
The clouds are swirling in - it was still the rainy season and in that jungle terrain we could expect some rain in the afternoon.
The next day there was tremendous rain - as you will see when I get around to posting that day.

Jessica had other ways of getting wet.

By this time, some friends of Jamie and Mam had arrived.
We were a very international group - Italian Diego, German Ingo and their wives and children and also Opa (Ingo's father) and a German friend.
Some enjoyed time in the pool.

Bill hadn't been in the pool, but he joined Jamie on the balcony, modelling the fetching pink towels supplied for us.

It gets cloudier - Jessica still enjoys the water.

In the evening we all enjoyed dinner together.
We have known Diego and his wife and daughter since our first visit in 2002.
I enjoyed a bottle of beer that evening - just one.
The men folk enjoyed rather more than that!

And Mam proves that you need no more than water to look and feel truly happy.
She doesn't touch alcohol.

Diego was feeling happy too and glad to let his non existent hair down.

The resort really is a place to make you feel good - beautiful surroundings, good service and just so relaxing.
