Last Sunday. Goffs Park and Out to Dinner

Last Sunday was another full day for Ekatarina - and us.
We began early at the Pease Pottage car boot sale. The best buy of the day must be Ashley's tenor recorder.

After lunch, Bill went to the shop for his afternoon duty.
Ashley, Ekatarina and I went to Goffs Park.
This is an open space, quite close to the centre of the town, with grassland, woodland and a small lake.
Ekatarina went there last year and badly wanted another visit to the small children's playground.

She climbed and played happily for a long time.
She is not very adventurous on the climbing frame, but having mastered something likes to do it again and again.

So she learned how to climb up a ladder to get to the top of the slide.

Ashley and I did what adults have to do in a children's playground.
We sat and waited.
This picture was taken by Ekatarina.

Goffs Park is the home of the local miniature steam enthusiasts club. The members construct beautiful little steam engines and on Sunday afternoons they light the fires and get steam up and chuff round the track that they have built.
And they give rides to members of the public.

Ashley went on with Ekatarina first.

I decided that perhaps Ekatarina could be offered a second ride so that I could have a go too.

Afterwards we talked with the engine driver, who gave us an engineering lesson! We saw the little fire and he gave a piece of coal to Ekatarina.

When we got home it was time to dress up a bit because we were going out to dinner.
We went to Jenny's house for a lovely meal. Ekatarina helped to gather some of the vegetables for the meal from the garden.
She has a rather narrow menu - but she did eat the carrot that she pulled out of the ground.

Ekatarina was so pleased to be able to show Jenny the lovely bride's head dress that she had bought at the car boot sale that morning.

After dinner, Jenny and Ekatarina sat down on the floor and had a competition to see who could build the tallest tower.

It was nearly 10 o'clock when we left - way past Ekatarina's normal bed time.
Darkness had fallen and she went into the garden, entranced at the night sky.
The moon, the planets and the stars have become her friends.
