Mixed fortunes for Ekatarina

Today there have been mixed fortunes for Ekatarina - but mostly things have been good.
First of all we went to the car boot sale at Faygate. Do you know, most weeks I just don't notice how many stalls have toys for sale!
It is hard for a 5 year old to feel restraint amongst so much that is wondrous.
I tried to train her, really I did. She could spend one pound, I said. But of course we went over the limit a bit.
It was hard to drag her away from a stall with Polly Pocket toys - but then I knew that her Dad had already found it and bought the best of the toys and they were safely stowed in the car.
He she is at home with the Polly Pocket toys on the sofa.
Oh - and there is a globe without a stand that somebody gave her because she looked lovely! This happened more than once and she has a doll and a toy mobile phone that were given to her.
Somebody said that she looked beautiful and how lovely is was to see a little girl in a pretty little girl's dress.

Ekatarina and her Dad explore together. There are so many features in a Polly Pocket toy and this one had lots of spare people.

Then the bad thing happened. She ran into the kitchen to say something to Grandad and began to scream.
At first we thought she had been frightened by a buzzing wasp. Perhaps she was making up the pain on the side of her face! But no - we soon saw where she had been stung and that her cheek was looking very red.
This was her first wasp sting and so we waited carefully to see if she had an adverse reaction. Fortunately not. I gave her a cold flannel to hold on her face and after about an hour she was able to concentrate again on her toys.
This afternoon Bill and I had a commitment at the track - we were timekeeping for a British League match. The Crawley men's A team have been struggling in Division 3 and it was fairly certain that relegation was looming - and it proved to be so.
It was an enjoyable afternoon with some old friends - some of whom we used to meet years ago when we were striving for the top.
Ashley and Ekatarina went to Tilgate Park - just a little distance away from the track. It is a beautiful amenity for the town with much natural woodland surrounding the lakes. There has also been lots of careful planting and whatever season of the year it always looks good.

You can see that Angel the dog has claimed the number one spot in Ekatarina's affections.

Tilgate Park has much more than the natural lakes and woodland. The Nature Centre is excellent with all sorts of small animals to learn about.
There are play areas, including a small maze in the walled garden.
Here is Ekatarina at play.

Ashley came back to the track about 45 minutes before the meeting was over. He left Ekatarina with us so that he could go off to church.
She was very good and took an interest in what was going on. She picked out favourite runners to support and was specially pleased that there was a Welsh team from Swansea.
The announcer thought she was lovely and announced that there was a new young timekeeper today called Ekatarina Monk.
