2nd October The Thai Parrot Flower.

I see lots of photographs of wonderful flowers; both Bill and Roger love to capture their beauty through the lens of the camera.
Jamie too sends pictures of flowers from his garden and no doubt you might have seen some on his jjjj blog.
But today's flower pictures came to me from Canada - thank you Joyce; but they are flowers from Thailand.
I don't know what Thais would call them - perhaps their name is also "parrot flower".
You will see from the information at the end that they grow only in Northern Thailand - so not suitable for Jamie and Mam's garden.

Information from a web site...........
According to the gentleman who took the photos it is Impatiens psittacina. He happens to have a botanical background and is an excellent plant grower in Thailand. I have not conversed with him personally but through an intermediary since he is Thai and does not speak English. The plant was identified at the Royal Botanical Garden Kew in 1901 and was discovered in 1899 in the Shaw States of Burma. It is only found in portions of Burma and northern Thailand and as such is quite rare. According to the grower it is very difficult to cultivate and requires a local natural pollinator to produce seeds. It also requires very specific soil pH in order to prosper and produce the "blue" coloration. If you care to read about the species you can find more information on this website, The Exotic Rainforest at http://www.exoticrainforest.com/ Look for the plant on the Plants Collection page under its botanical name, Impatiens psittacina.
